prayer for haiti

Then Jesus lifted up his eyes and said:

“Blessed are the poor: for yours is the kingdom of God.  Blessed are you who hunger: for you shall be filled.  Blessed are you that weep: for you shall laugh and sing and dance.

"Blessed are you when the whole world turns its back on you in your time of need.  Rejoice and leap for joy: for, behold, your reward is great in heaven.  And remember, it was in like manner that people treated God’s prophets and people of old.

"But woe unto you that are rich: for you have received your consolation.  Woe unto you that are full: for you shall hunger.   And woe unto you that laugh now: for you shall mourn and weep.” + Luke 6

God of laughing and mourning, God of rich and poor, God of consolation and protection, this is our prayer: keep watch, dear Lord, with our Haitian brothers and sisters who work, or watch, or weep this night, and give your angels charge over those who sleep in tents.  Tend the sick, dear Christ; give rest to the weary, bless the dying, soothe the suffering, pity the afflicted, shield the joyous; and do it all for your Love’s sake. Amen.
